The War Graves of Ystradgynlais

The memorial in Coelbren Chapel was erected in 1920, commemorating those men of the village who had died in the First World War. It took the form of a new pulpit for the church, and a brass plaque upon it engraved with the names off the fallen.

From the Labour Voice newspaper, 9th October 1920 :-

The Memorial Tablet at the Church has now been erected and the dedication will take place at 3.30p.m., on Thursday of next week, the 14th inst. The Bishop of the diocese will officiate.

Capel Coelbren formed part of the parish of Abercrave when it was separated from that of Ystradgynlais in 2015, and remained under the vicar of Saint David's, Abercrave, until the latter was closed, and the parish abolished. Thereafter it has been part of the Ministry Area centred upon Ystradgynlais (Saint Cynog's) and Ystalyfera (Saint David's) and their vicars.
