Ystradgynlais & DistrictHistory and HeritageThe Berrington Arms, Upper CwmtwrchThe Berrington Arms burned down in 1992, after having already closed as a pub by the late 1980s, and by the time of the fire had recently closed as a club called Taffy's Tash From the LlaisThe Labour Voice newspaper, February 23rd 1924, reported on a meeting of the R.A.O.B. held at the Berrington Arms:- A meeting of the Dr. John Owen Lodge of the R.A.O.B. was held at the Berrington Arms on Monday evening, Primo John Watkins (pro-tem) presiding over a large gathering. The programme for the evening was opened by a pianoforte solo by Mr J W Jones, Cwmllynfell, and solos were sung by Messrs E and Tom Walker. A vote of condolence was accorded Primo David Jones in the death of his mother, and carried in silence. Some of the details about pubs in the Swansea Valley and Coelbren were sourced from 'The Village Pub' by William T. Davies,a detailed history of brewing in the Neath and Swansea valleys and the history and heritage of the local pubs of the area. All proceeds from sale of this book go towards Ystradgynlais Community Hospital.
