Ystradgynlais & DistrictHistory and HeritageTafarn Twrch (Castle Inn), CwmtwrchOriginally called the Castle Inn, as a coaching inn, then the Castle Hotel in later years, this pub is now the Tafarn Twrch, and is located near the roundabout to Rhifawr in Lower Cwmtwrch. It is open for business. This photograph from October 2018, shows the Tafarn Twrch inn with a yellowy-gold frontage This view of the Tafarn Twrch in Lower Cwmtwrch shows how close by it was to two other public houses in the area. Just to the left of the roundabout, out of the picture, would have been the Golden Lion and across the roundabout can be seen what is now the Fynnon, but used to be The Crown. Below, we can see the Tafarn Twrch (Boar Tavern) as we look down the road which leads, eventually, to Ystalyfera. Some of the details about pubs in the Swansea Valley and Coelbren were sourced from 'The Village Pub' by William T. Davies,a detailed history of brewing in the Neath and Swansea valleys and the history and heritage of the local pubs of the area.
