Headmasters of Cynlais Primary School, Ystradgynlais

We are attempting to list the Headmasters of Cynlais primary school. At present we can say:-

W.J. THOMAS
W.J. Thomas passed away in March 1946 at the age of 83 and in his obituary it stated "For nearly 45 years, Mr Thomas had been headmaster, first of the old Oddfellows street School, and later of the new Cynlais School". Logically, this would place him before the others in the list, even though he was not the first to pass away. Read more about W.J. Thomas.

EVAN REES
Evan Rees passed away in May 1918, and in his obituary is described as having "joined the staff at the Cynlais School Ystradgynlais, where he eventually became headmaster, afterwards taking up duties at the Pantycwrt School Abercrave, where he left for North Wales". He was sixty when he died, so the period in which he was headmaster of Cynlais School cannot yet be ascertained. Read more about Evan Rees.

LLEW POWELL
Mr Llew (Llewelyn) Powell was Headmaster of Cynlais primary school at the time of Saint David's Day, March 1960

HYWEL JEFFREYS
Hywel Jeffreys was appointed Headmaster of Cynlais Primary School on March 28th 1967 at the age of 35. He was still Headmaster both at the time of the official opening of the open-air swimming pool in the Summer of 1974 and also in July 1975.

From The Voice newspaper, March 30th 1967:-

NEW HEADMASTER
A former pupil of Maesydderwen School was appointed by Breconshire Education Primary Schools Committee at Brecon on Tuesday to be Headmaster of Cynlais Primary mixed Schools, Ystradgynlais. Mr Jeffreys who is Welsh-speaking has been a qualified assistant at St Mary Redcliffe and Temple Church of England School, Bristol, since 1956. He is married.
